Volunteer Opportunities


Industry trade associations are driven by member involved and action. Today, we ask that you as a member, consider serving on a WSNLA committee or task force. Your time, talent, and knowledge will work to strengthen our industry and association.  

Legislative Committee

Help protect the nursery and landscape industry against unnecessary regulations and legislation, by: 

  • Review and analyze legislative and regulatory issues and assess possible impact on the
    horticulture industry.
  • Assist with the planning of WSNLA Legislative Impact Day.
  • Help coordinate the development of chapter and member involvement, when necessary.

 These activities support WSNLA's initiative to protect our industry and advocate for member businesses. 

WSNLA Membership Committee

Help grow our member community, by:

  • Familiarizing yourself with WSNLA programs and services
    • Legislative & Regulatory Activities
    • WSNLA publications, websites & events
    • WSNLA Leadership Awards Program
    • Professional Certification (CPH, ecoPRO)
    • WSNLA PROseries & NW Green Industry Conference
    • WSNLA Preferred Partners
  • Conduct membership outreach activities 
  • Provide support to annual membership drive

 These activities support WSNLA's initiatives of increasing awareness of WSNLA members and Community. 

NW Green Industry Conference Committee

  • Participate in the event site selection, event theme and agenda.
  • Assist with seminar and speaker recruitment.
  • Along with President, facilitate Master of Ceremony duties for event.
  • Participate in sponsorship recruitment. 
  • Review event feedback and make necessary updates and changes.

 These activities support WSNLA iniatives to cultivate professionals and develop future professionals. 

WSNLA Industry Advancement Committee

  • Have a strong belief in continuing education and ongoing training in the field of horticulture.
  • Stay informed on relevant issues and matters of current concern pertaining to the horticulture industry.
  • Identify speakers and topics that support educational activities with WSNLA Staff. (WSNLA PROseries, B&B Magazine, WSNLA.ORG Resource Center, etc.)
  • Collect, review and identify WSNLA competency areas for courses offered.
  • Assist in the intake of registration at seminars, if necessary. 

 These activities support WSNLA's initiatives to cultivate professionalism and develop future professionals. 



WSNLA Plant Something Committee

Help us spread the word that plants & trees are more than just pretty, by:

  • Generating ideas to get our message out to consumers.
  • Support member participation by identifying marketing tools for their use.
  • Help grow as a resource for PNW gardeners to connect with WSNLA members.

 These activities support WSNLA's initiative to increase awareness of the benefits of plants, trees and landscapes. 



Certified Professional Horticulturist Committee

The Certified Professional Horticulturist Committee is growing! Activities include:

  • Overseeing the selection and/or production and revision of study materials and tests, including overseeing the administration and grading of tests.
  • Establishes continuing education credit and certification renewal policies. Makes all decisions regarding exceptions and modifications to established policies. 
  • Oversees preparation of budget and presents to WSNLA Board for approval.
  • Develops and manages promotional and outreach strageties and activities.
  • Makes quarterly reports to the WSNLA Board of Directors.
  • Establishes and oversees subcommittees as necessary to fulfill its responsibilities.
  • (Must be a Certified Professional Horticulturist to serve.)

The Certified Professional Horticulturist Committee is currently seeking volunteers to help on a Marketing & Outreach Taskforce this includes: 

  • Overseeing the CPH booth at the NW Flower & Garden Show
  • Conducting outreach to horticulture students regarding certification
  • Outreach to contributing writers, speakers and bloggers

 These activities support WSNLA's initiative to cultivate professionalism. You must be a Certified Professional Horticulturist to serve on this committee and task forces.
