WSNLA Is Your Regulatory & Legislative Advocate.

For over 75 years, WSNLA has been protecting and advocating the nursery and landscape industry in Olympia and DC. WSNLA members unite their voices as an industry to ensure unnecessary regulations, fair business conditions, and industry professionalism is understood.

  • Because of our advocacy efforts, WSNLA was effective with the following recent issues:
    • 2015 Drought Declaration
    • Native Seed Bill
    • Open Space Taxaction
    • LA Bill
  • WSNLA Lobbyist, Heather Hansen, is one of the most respected and effective lobbyists in Olympia. For over 10 years, As our watchdog in Olympia, Hansen has been successful in communicating and advocating on behalf of the nursery and landscape industry here in Washington State.

  • WSNLA’s annual Legislative Day works to inform legislators about our industry, communicate key issues, & provides tools and talking points for members to communicate with their local representatives. Each year, Green Industry Ambassadors visit the Capitol Campus and deliver data about our industry to every legislator.

  • WSNLA is a AmericanHort Legislative Lighthouse Program partner, which ensures our members regulatory
& legislative concerns are heard at the national level.

WSNLA has an established presence in Olympia and in other places where public policy affecting the industry is formulated. In fact, WSNLA is named in certain state laws as the organization which advises state government on some matters and makes recommendations of people to be named to certain government advisory committees. A special state fund to pay for plant research was championed solely by WSNLA and is now producing in excess of $100,000 yearly to benefit and protect the industry.

WSNLA’s advocacy efforts have achieved many notable successes over the years. Today, we continue to keep the dialog open, bringing members and state legislators face to face to discuss pertinent issues and partnering with like-minded organizations to encourage regulatory and legislative decisions that make good business sense and help our members prosper. We also work hand-in-hand with regulators, especially at the Washington Department of Agriculture, to ensure a smooth and productive working relationship.
