July 25, 9:30am - Noon | Pt Defiance Park, Tacoma
Guided by Metro Parks Tacoma’s Certified Professional Horticulturist Steve Herbig & Metro Parks Grounds Management Team Members.
Point Defiance Park, a 760-acre park, is a popular Pacific Northwest destination that offers its more than 3.1 million annual visitors old growth forest, saltwater beaches, spectacular views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges and boundless year-round recreational opportunities. During this Learning Lab you will be guided by Metro Parks Tacoma’s Certified Professional Horticulturist Steve Herbig and team members through the various botanical gardens featuring the newly renovated Rose Garden, the Dahlia Trial Garden, Northwest Native Plant Garden, Japanese Garden, and the Iris, Herb & Fuschia Gardens. Steve will also share the unique challenges that come with managing and maintaining a park of this size, its irrigation and other water management challenges, how sustainability practices are woven into day-to-day operations, and the tree care management program in place to care for the park’s old growth forest. This is a tour you won’t want to miss!
