8 KEY STEPS TO DESIGNING A DEER-RESISTANT GARDEN

Small group workshop presented by Karen Chapman, CPH, Le jardinet
Two Sessions Offered.    |  Cost: $50  |  Space is limited to 20 registrants per session.

Offer your deer-challenged clients more than just a sympathetic nod and generic plant lists. Those don’t translate to billowing borders or Pinterest-worthy landscapes. What they need from you, the professional, are tried and true strategies and design tricks that will enable them to have the garden of their

dreams without resorting to tall fences or constant spraying.

Join Certified Professional Horticulturist Karen Chapman, local designer and author of the newly released Deer-Resistant Design: Fence-Free Gardens that Thrive Despite the Deer (Timber Press, 2019), in her Duvall garden as she shares all that she learned while visiting 13 deer-prone gardens around

the country, as well as her own daily battles with local herds.

Karen's presentation, “Designing a Deer-Resistant Garden”, will illustrate the 8 key design steps that you can employ in your workflow.  The presentation

will be followed by a learning lab walk-and-talk garden tour around her personal 5-acre property further illustrating how these principles can be put into practice, including: designing privacy screening; floral tapestries; focal points; foliage-first displays; woodland borders; a critter-resistant vegetable garden;

or drought-tolerant combinations for hot, sunny gardens. While the focus throughout will be on deer resistance, since voles and rabbits are also permanent residents, Karen will highlight what has worked – and what hasn’t when dealing with those critters too.

The session will wrap up with a brief session on how to set your clients expectations and sell your knowledge followed by Q & A.

Signed copies of Karen’s book will be available for purchase at a discounted rate during the workshop.
