The three-part examination covers a variety of subjects pertinent to the industry, including plant identification, general horticulture knowledge, and landscape principles.

Pruning: Fruit Trees

This class covers the basics of fruit tree pruning, covering apple, cherry, plum and pear trees.

Organic Gardens You Can Eat — a series of classes designed and taught by WSU Kitsap Extension Gardeners on organic vegetable gardening.  Approved for 5 CPH credits available for each class.  See class schedule and topics below.  Classes taught at Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 6th Street, Bremerton.  Cost: $150 for all four classes (includes class materials, Maritime Gardening Guide and resource guides) or $45 each class individually.  Early Registration by December 16th: $125 for all 4 classes.  For more information or to register online, visit:

· Soils, Cover Crops and Composting
Learn about the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils and why they are fundamental to growing a great garden organically.  Learn how to nourish and replenish your soil with cover crops and compost.  Discussion of different composting systems, including worm composting.

· Garden Planning: Strategies for a successful garden including summer and winter gardens

· Bee Pollinators

 

Class #3 —Saturday, February 4, 9am - 3pm 

· Seeding and Planting - methods, soils, transplanting, conditions and timing

· Garden Management — gardening methods, pest/disease  monitoring

· Fertilizers, irrigation, crop rotation and season extenders

 

Class #4 — Saturday, February 18, 9am -3pm 

· Integrated Pest Management —  how to control pests/diseases the organic way.

· Harvesting and Seed Saving

· Preservation of  the harvest
