Image result for Liesl Zappler pictureGoing Green -  A Case Study of Landscaping Practices at Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Leisl will present insights learned during her tenure managing the grounds at Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Unique challenges and solutions include: water and wildlife management, plant selection, IPM, and best practices in mulching techniques. This presentation will include data and cost analysis that support savings in sustainable landscape management.  

Presenter: Liesl Zappler has been organically gardening in the PNW for over 20 years. She was the Landscape and IPM Coordinator for Swedish Medical Center and helped to write IPM policies for Swedish Medical Center, Lake Washington Institute of Technology, the Seattle School District, Sound Transit and the City of Issaquah. Liesl received 5-Star EnviroStars awards for Swedish Medical Center’s Issaquah, First Hill and Cherry Hill campuses. Liesl received the King County Green Globe award in 2013, which is the County’s highest environmental honor.

Presenter: Alison Kutz is the owner of Sound Horticulture, which has served greenhouse growers and farmers since 2000 with beneficial insects and biological controls. Sound Horticulture offers microbial products, consultation, support, and service based on 35 years of experience in the
Nursery Industry. Its mission is to help growers integrate the most ecologically-sound solutions to an array of plant production challenges.

A panel of practitioners will share their varied experience, including challenges and solutions,effective products, and techniques. This interactive discussion is an opportunity to discuss challenges and gather solutions.
